Do I need to use screenwash or can I just use water?

When you need to top up your windscreen wash, you may wonder if you can simply use water instead of the specialised cleaning fluid. That may work in countries with a more temperate climate where freezing isn’t an issue, but even then, water isn’t able to effectively clean off all the dirt, grime, insects etc that collect on the windscreen.
